medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesian-made fighter jet is currently under developments. The aircraft will be ready in the year 2024.

Director of PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), Budi Santoso, stated that the company will start the production phase of the fighter jet, titled Indonesia Fighter Xperiment (IFX) 4.5 Generation, in 2020. PTDI is cooperating with the Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) for the project.

"The aircraft will be produced in 2020. It will continue for 20 years," said Budi at his office, Bandung, West Java, Thursday (2/11/2016).

Budi explained contract has been signed between the Ministry of Defence with the Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) of South Korea as well as PTDI and KAI last January for the development of IFX's prototype which is expected to be finished in 2019.

PTDI targeted IFX to be operational in 2024 or 2025. "2024 the jet is operational. This year until 2019, we make prototypes and do test flights," he added.

The development of IFX's prototype will be conducted in South Korea. IFX will be used by Indonesian military or sold to other countries.

Budi underlined Indonesian scientists and technicians are actively involved in the project. Around 300 Indonesians are currently studying in South Korea.

According to the agreement, Indonesia will fund 20 percent of the cost. However, Indonesia will acquire 90 percent of the technology.
