medcom.id, Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama plans to visit Pyongyang, North Korea. The plan was revealed after the visit of North Korean Ambassador to Indonesia, An Kwang Il to the City Hall.
"Mayor of Pyongyang hopes i could visit. Jakarta and Pyongyang are Sister Cities," said Ahok, Basuki's nickname, after meeting with the Ambassador at the City Hall, Jakarta, Friday (2/12/2016).
Jakarta has several sister cities in Asia. Ahok plans to visit them including Pyongyang.
"Maybe April we can go there (North Korea). Depends on the schedule," said Ahok.
Ahok said he will send athletes to North Korea. Besdes that, Ahok and An Kwang Il also discussed the exchange of Korean Tigers with Indonesian Orangutan as a form of friendship.
"He is thinking on how to send them, as it will transit in Beijing with a week of quarantine. It was discussed," he concluded.
Jakarta has 21 sister cities, among others Beijing, Hanoi, Berlin, Paris, Pyongyang, Seoul, Tokyo, Athena, Bangkok, Casablanca, Jeddah, Istanbul, Islamabad and Los Angeles.
Jakarta also will sign Sister City Memorandum of Understanding with Rotterdam City, the Netherlands. In the near future, it will also establish the sister city partnership with Cairo, Egypt.
