Police Chief: Tolikara Riot is a Miscommunication

medcom.id, Jakarta: Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti assessed the riot in Karubaga, Tolikara Regency, Papua, was caused by a miscommunication. However, the cause is still being investigated by the police.
 
The miscommunication started from the circular letter published by the Evangelical Church Organization in Indonesia (GIDI) asking for the dismissal of loudspeakers during Eid morning prayer. The letter was acknowledged as it was sent to Tolikara Police, July 13, 2105. However, GIDI President officially confirmed the circular letter was unofficial.
 
"Upon receiving the letter, Tolikara Police Resort Chief coordinated with GIDI President. Then, the president stated that the letter was unofficial as it was written without the approval of GIDI President," Police Chief Badrodin Haiti conveyed at the Police Headquarters in Jalan Trunojoyo, South Jakarta, Monday (7/20/2015).

Then, Tolikara Police had coordinated with Tolikara Regent to withdraw the letter as the Muslims would conduct Eid prayer at the Military Command (Koramil) Headquarters' yard.
 
"Police Resort Chief conveyed that the Muslims were to conduct Eid prayer at the Koramil Headquarters' yard and requested time from 07.00 WIB to 08.00 WIB in the morning to revoke the letter. Then the Regent conveyed he would coordinate with the local committee in Tolikara to ask the circular letter to be withdrawn," Badrodin explained.
 
Moreover, the four star general stated he had met with the pastor who signed the letters as he confirmed that the circular letter was already revoked.
 
However, Badrodin did not expect GIDI group to rumble with the Muslims conducting their Eid prayer.
 
"This is the missing link, whether it was just a reason or the truth. Because following the Regent saying he would coordinate and ask for the letter to be revoked, the Police Resort Chief had met with the Muslim figures to allow Eid prayer at the yard, as the security will guarantee their safety," he concluded.
