medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesia bagged its second medal in the Rio Olympics. Weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan won a silver medal in the men's 62 kilogram category on Tuesday (8/9) morning.
Eko lifted 312 kilograms in total. The gold medal went to Colombian weightlifter Figuero Mosquerio who lifted 318 kilograms in total.
It is Eko's third medal in the olympics. The 27-year-old athlete won a bronze medal in the previous two olympics.
Eko grew up in a poor family. The Lampung resident used to tend his family's goats during training breaks.
He has collected medals since his junior years. He won a gold medal in 2007 Junior World Weightlifting Championship.
After that, he regularly received medals in international tournaments such as the Asian Weighlifting Championships and the World Weightlifting Championships.
Indonesia currently collects two silver medals in the Rio Olympics. Weightlifter Sri Wahyuni Agustiani got a silver medal in the women's 48 kilogram category
