Indonesia Holds Historical Simultaneous Regional Elections

medcom.id, Jakarta: Up to 269 regions consist of nine provinces, 224 countries and 36 cities holds simultaneous regional elections today. This is a historical moment. For the first time, Indonesia, as one of the biggest democracies in the world, holds simultaneous regional election.
 
The number of voters are 100,186,754 person. No less than Rp5.4 trillion is spent for the occasion. There are 1,658 candidates compete in the elections
 
Government has confirmed it is ready to hold the elections. Minister of Home Affairs  Tjahjo Kamolo believed the elections will succeed. "The preparation is already 99 %, now only the implementation," said Tjahjo in Istana Bogor, Tuesday (12/8/2015).
 
General Election Commission (KPU) member, Arief Budiman advised public to vote because it will decide regional development in the next five years. The vote will be held from 7 AM to 1 PM.
 
"Choose by your conscience," said Arief yesterday.
 
Another KPU member, Ferry Kurnia Rizkiansyah ensured logistics for the elections have been distributed to 269 regions. The logistics have been arrived in every polling station.
 
"It have been distributed including for five troubled regions namely Central Kalimantan, Pematang Siantar, Simalungun, Manado and Fakfak," he said yesterday. 
 
Ferry hoped the elections is welcomed well by public without any trouble or violence. "I hope there is no conflict tomorrow (today)," he said.
 
Election Ethic Council (DKPP) Chief Jimly Asshiddiqie said the first simultaneous regional elections is lacking promotion. He suspected the it is because the campaign fund is given by government.
 
"I have travel around. It is lacking promotion. Maybe this is the impact of government funded campaign.We must learn from this for evaluation," he said.
 
5 regions postponed
 
Latest information, regional elections in five regions namely Central Kalimantan province, Pematang Siantar municipality, Simalungun county, Manado municipality and Fakfak county are postponed for various reasons.
