medcom.id, Jakarta: In 2015, Attorney General's Office (AGO) has implemented death penalty to 14 convicts. The executions were done on January 18 and April 29.
After the second phase of death penalty in April, Government didn't plan any follow up. Attorney General HM Prasetyo said government decided to postpone death penalty to focus on other priorities.
"This is legal matter. We will not back down. However, we postpone it at the moment. Because we have other priorities like economic recovery. I underlines the death penalty postponed temporarily because we focus on economic recovery in the country," he said in hiss office, Jakarta, Wednesday (12/30/2015)
Prasetyo reviewed the implementation of death penalty this year. Prasetyo said the executions were done according to the rule and the convicts' rights.
Although some people rejected the policy because it was considered as human rights violation. Prasetyo said the policy was appreciated when he went to international forum.
"When we attended ASEAN Attorney General Conference in China, We were appreciated and considered as an example," he concluded.
