medcom.id, Yogyakarta: The Cultural Heritage Conservation Board (BPCB) in Yogyakarta excavated or dug out rice paddy in Karangbajang, Tlogoadi Village, Mlati District, Sleman District, Yogyakarta, on Monday, (8/3/2015).
The excavation was conducted as a temple was strongly suspected to lie beneath the area as several months ago a giant-sized rock was found.
"We will start excavating the location of Karangbajang, Mlati, Sleman," said the Section Head of the Protection, Development and Utilization of BPCB Yogyakarta, Wahyu Astuti, when contacted by Metrotvnews.com, Sunday evening.
He explained that BPCB Yogyakarta had established a team to conduct the excavation, which also involved several archaeologist from the University of Gajah Mada (UGM).
"There are eight people from BPCB Yogyakarta and ten from Gajah Mada University," he revealed.
Aside from the BPCB team and UGM archaeologists, the excavation process will also involve local residents. Several residents have been requested to assist the process. "Well, it will still involve local citizens," he said.
The Head of Protection Work Group from BPCB Yogyakarta, Muhammad Taufik added that the initial excavation process will run for several days. It is conducted as to see how important the site is, as to ensure the buried temple.
"If there is a temple and the site is important, then further excavation will be conducted. If not, we stop it," he stated.
