medcom.id, Medan: The archaeology team from Medan Archaeology Agency again found a temple structure in the Chinatown in Medan, North Sumatra. The temple is estimated from the 12th century.
"The excavation was started on April 12. Pieces by pieces of the temple structure was discovered," said historian from Medan State University, Ichwan Azhari, Wednesday (4/27).
He said the excavation will continue for the next couple of days. "Aside from the team from Medan Archaeology Agency, the team from the National Archaeology Center has also been deployed to the location," he added.
Ichwan explained this is the fourth ancient temple discovered in the Chinatown within five years. The temples are close to each other.
However, Ichwan lamented the lack of attention from the local government even though the temples could reveal the ancient history of Medan city.
"Although it is clear that temples and ancient city are found in this location, the local government does not care. They don't have plan to purchase the land," he concluded.
