medcom.id, Jakarta: A member of Commission V of the House of Representatives William Wandik affirmed that there is nothing changed on the inter-religious relationship in Papua following the riot recently. He also asked all parties not to worsen the matter.
"We hope that all parties would restrain themselves, as to not worsening the situation over the incident. Because we are grateful that the religious harmony in Papua, both for Christians and Muslims are still and harmonious," William stated through a written statement on Monday (7/20/2015).
Moreover, William also urged the government to maintain the effort in strengthening the religious harmony in its territory with direct approach. "It is the government's work on how to maintain and develop harmonious relationship not only in Papua, but throughout the Indonesian archipelago," he deliberated.
In addition, the man originally from Papua continued to coordinate with the central and regional governments in discussing the victims handling and burnt out buildings and houses.
"Tomorrow there will be Social Minister and government representative to continue the coordination on the efforts of handling the victims. We hope the meeting and coordination will happen and good relationship is created," affirmed William.
The Democrat politician also asked the authorities to investigate thoroughly on the involvements of various parties, to prevent similar incidents from happening.
"Of course those who conduct anarchy should be imposed sanctions, as they are individuals. We entrust the police to prevent such act of violence," he stated. (EPS)
