medcom.id, Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) ensured that he will run as independent candidate in 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Ahok denied speculation of nomination by political parties. "We are independent," he told reporters at the City Hall, Jakarta, Monday (6/6/2016).
The former East Belitung Regent explained Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok volunteer group) has gathered 1 million ID cards which is the main requirement to run as independent candidate in 2017 election.
Previously, Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat revealed PDIP is considering to support Ahok in 2017 election. The PDIP politician believes Ahok and him will be a strong pair in the election.
"Many people say Ahok-Djarot is the best pair," he stated recently.
