medcom.id, Jakarta: Jakarta Police have received reports from the Anti-Slander Young Intellectual Network (JIMAF) as related to the alleged incitement conducted by Islamic Defender’s Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab. Rizieq was reported based on his speech about the logo of Bank Indonesia in new rupiah bills.
Rizieq’s speech has been widely discussed after a video went viral in social media. He stated that the new bills has the symbol of the hammer and sickle, identic with the Indonesian Communist Party that have been long disbanded.
The report against Rizieq was received with the number P/92/1/2017/PMJ/ Ditreskrimsus on January 8, 2017. Rizieq has been accused of spreading hoax and hate speeches on race, religion, ethnicity and groups (SARA).
"Rizieq in his speech has made up a viral story on the featured PKI logo in the latest bills, accusing it as the government’s mistakes. Meanwhile the government was always firm against PKI, which is a forbidden party," JIMAF coordinator M. Herdiyan Saksono Zoulba said at the Jakarta Police Headquarters.
Herdiyan said Rizieq’s accusation has triggered incitement among the public and caused worries. He added that the accusation from the FPI leader cannot be accounted for.
Rizieq is allegedly violating Article 28 paragraph 2 jo Article 45 paragraph 2 of the Information and Electronics Transactions (ITE) Law No. 19/2016, which amended the Law No. 11/2008 on ITE.
Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Mochamad Iriawan previously said that Rizieq’s statement was a form of incitement, as his side had received an explanation from Bank Indonesia denying the accusation.
