Bulog Ensures Rice Stock Secured Prior To Ramadan

medcom.id, Jakarta: A state-owned enterprise for the National Logistics Agency, or known as Perum Bulog, ensures that the rice stock to fulfill the needs prior to the Ramadan fasting month and Eid al-Fitr 2015 is secure and sufficient, as they are prepared to conduct market operations in managing the conditions.
 
"The logistic agency's stock prior to fasting and Eid al-Fitr is - alhamdulilah - secure. Currently, the rice stock is sufficient for the next five and a half month," the secretary of the agency, Djoni Nur Ashari stated in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (5/26/2015).
 
According to Djoni, the rice stock in Bulog warehouse have reached 1.3 million tons, which is sufficient for the next five months. As for the domestic rice procurement by the state company, the number has reached at around 25,000 tons per day, or as much as 1.1 million tons in total for this year's 2.75 million tons.

"It is hoped that the stock will continue to rise, as harvests will also continue," he stated.
 
Related to efforts in securing the price of rice prior to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2015, Djoni stated his party is prepared to conduct market operations (OP) if necessary. "We will see the price trend, as we are ready to conduct OP if needed," he stated.
 
Previously, Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman ensured that the supply of rice for public prior to 2015 Ramadan fasting and Eid al-Fitr is secure and sufficient. "It's safe, we ensure that until Eid this will be enough," he said.
 
He wished that the supply might be facilitated from local stocks so the government does not have to open the import flow. On pricing, he estimated that distribution problem is still the main cause of high rice prices in the market.
 
"Distribution should be well, we have advised Bulog, whereas the solution is for them to go directly to the farmers. If Bulog goes straight to farmers, farmers will enjoy the price and consumers will also enjoy stable price," he elaborated. (Eps)
