medcom.id, Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) said on Monday (8/8) he is not afraid to compete against big coalition in 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Many political observers believe parties such as Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party would form a big coalition in the election.
"I am not affraid," Ahok told reporters at the City Hall.
Paramadina University political analyst Toto Sugiarto mentioned that Ahok could compete against big coalition as his popularity is the biggest among candidates.
"Coalition is not the main factor. It is the figure," he stated.
Meanwhile, Indikator Politik Indonesia executive director Burhanuddin Muhtadi explained there are three scenarios in 2017 Jakarta election.
First, PDIP, Gerindra and other parties form a big coalition against Ahok. Second, PDIP and Gerindra form their own coalitions against Ahok. Third, PDIP to support Ahok in the election.
