Rice Stock for the Poor Sufficient, Social Minister Confirms

medcom.id, Semarang: Minister of Social Affairs Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated that the rice stock for the poor (raskin) at the Logistical Affairs Agency (Bulog) in several Indonesian areas is sufficient for several months ahead, as the result of unscheduled inspections to a number of warehouses in different regions.
 
2.7 tons of raskin worth Rp18.9 trillion are needed for one year supply. At least for 15.5 million households, 15 kilograms are allocated on monthly basis.
 
"Yesterday I was at Aceh Besar, whereas it is enough for a year. Last week in Makassar, it is enough for 4.5 months. Previously, Manokwari. On each visit, I have tried to check the warehouse (Bulog). I want to ensure the supply is secured," Khofifah said following an inspection at the Bulog Regional Division warehouse of Randu Garut, Semarang, Central Java, Sunday afternoon (5/31/2015).

Aside from ensuring the sufficient stock, the Social Minister had also observed the quality of rice. She had found bad quality rice in one of the warehouses.
 
"I want to ensure that raskin supply in Central Java is secured for the next five months. Currently, it is still the procurement stage due to harvest in July. If I usually found molded (rice), it is not here (Regional Division of Central Java). Not yellow, stony and full of fleas. I have found those kinds of rice and we have communicated with the Director of Bulog," she said.
 
The minister also advised public to report the findings of non-consumable rice. Recipients may return the rice to Bulog warehouse.
 
"He (Bulog Director) stated that it (raskin) is guaranteed. Should there be non-consumable rice, please return them to the warehouse to be destroyed," Khofifah stated.
 
She has also asked the Regents or Mayors to publish Allocation Order (SPA) of rice for the poor, as they should be distributed prior to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
 
"I want to urge the regents and mayors to release the SPA. The regional and sub-regional divisions across Indonesia may distribute the rice early in June, so those who are fasting may be at peace due to sufficient stock. The acceleration of SPA should be in July as those celebrating Eid al-Fitr will feel safe," she added.
 
Meanwhile, the Head of Semarang Regional Division of Bulog Sugiarni stated there are eight warehouses in Semarang City, Semarang Regency, Grobogan Regency, Demak Regency, Kendal Regency and Salatiga City. Currently there are 1,200 tons of rice at the Randu Garut warehouse, Semarang.
 
"1,200 tons are for four months. The rice in our warehouse is as much as 22,000 tons from the monthly needs of 5,500 to 5,600 tons," Sugiarni stated. (Eps)
