Minister of Law Urges to Sack Penitentiary Officials Supplyng Drugs

medcom.id, Surabaya: There will be no mercy for Correctional Facility (LP) officials or detention house (rutan) proven to be involved in the drug distribution. Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly stated they should receive punishment.

 

"If the performance is good, they will receive awards, but in the contrary, there will be no choice but to be fired," he stated after attending the Inauguration of Cultural and Intellectual Wealth Area, as well as the Intellectual Property Submission of East Java at the Negara Grahadi Building, Gubernur Suryo Road, Surabaya, East Java, Tuesday (6/9/2015).

 

The instruction, according to Laoly, is applied to anyone. One of them is the General Sub Section Head of Medaeng Detention House, Surabaya, I Made Djumanten Yoga. A while ago, the Surabaya State Court sentenced Yoga with six years of prison and Rp1 billion fine, with two months subsidiary. The panel of judges considered that Yoga had been proven to distribute drugs at the detention house in 2013.

 

However, Yoga's appeal at the East Java High Court succeeded. Yoga was released as a free man at the end of 2013. Nonetheless, the Surabaya court had established a cassation which the verdict is still pending until currently. Even so, the East Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law has not revoked I Made Yoga's Civil Servant status with a postulation that the case verdict still has no permanent legality.

 

When asked on the matter, Yasonna kept short comments. The former PDIP politician affirmed that he had instructed the entire Regional Office heads in Indonesia, Directorate General of Correctional Facility and its ranks to pay serious attention on drug distribution in detention houses or correctional facility.

 

"What is supposed to happen at the detention houses or correctional facilities shows the performance as the last line of defense in convicts' rehabilitation. But the authority is scarred by several irresponsible actors. For that, firm actions should be taken," he stated. (EPS)
