After Sinak Incident, Security in Papua Tightened Ahead of Presidential Visit

medcom.id, Jakarta: National Police increased the number of personnel deployed to secure President Joko Widodo's visit to Papua this weekend. Jokowi is scheduled to spend the end of the year in Raja Ampat, West Papua.
 
"The security forces in the locations are sufficient, in four locations that he (President Jokowi) will visit, including anticipation measures. The force there has been added," mentioned the National Police Deputy Chief, Comm. Gen. Budi Gunawan at the the Police Headquarter, South Jakarta, Monday (12/28/2015).
 
It is known that prior to the visit of President Joko Widodo to Raja Ampat, a number of unknown people had attacked Sinak Police Office. Three policemen were killed in the incident.
 
Budi added that the security will also be tightened in other regions with potential of danger. The police tightened security in several areas including Puncak Jaya, South Sorong, Merauke, Wamena and Raja Ampat.
 
"We have added the personnel there and other prone area due to regional elections and President's request, in South Sorong, Merauke, Wamena and Raja Ampat," mentioned Budi.
 
A group of armed men attacked Sinak Police Office, Puncak Regency, Papua, Sunday, December 27. The assault had resulted in three dead and two other personnel injured.
 
Papua Police Chief Inspector Gen. Paulus Waterpauw mentioned the armed group also took seven pieces of firearms with various ammunition. The seven pieces of firearms taken by the group are AK 47 and SS1, each two pieces, as well as three Mosers and a crate of ammunition.
