medcom.id, Jakarta: Coordinating Ministry of Politics, Law and Security Luhut Panjaitan denies government implements moratorium on death penalty while Indonesia still has bad economy. Luhut clarified he ony said Indonesia will focus on law enforcement related to economic recovery.
"There is no moratorium on death penalty. I never said that. Don't spin my words i don't like it," Luhut said in Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (11/24/2015).
Luhut said decision to focus on law enforcement that related to economic recovery doesn't mean government implements moratorium on death penalty. "I only said we focus on law enforcement related to economy," he underlined.
Previously, Luhut reportedly say government will not hold execution until economy improves. "We dont think about execution yet as long as economic situation is still like this. We still concentrate on economy," Luhut said in 19 November.
Same message also conveyed by Luhut to Australian officials when he visited Sydney weeks ago. During the visit, Luhut said new Australian Govenment under Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull understands Indonesian law including death penalty policy.
