Ahok: Go-Jek Similar to Prostitution

Wanda Indana • 24 June 2015 15:30
medcom.id, Jakarta: The presence of Go-Jek is illegal as it is not regulated by the Law No. 22 Year 2009 on Traffic and Public Transport. Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama compared it with prostitution, not regulated by the Law but many have used their service.

Ahok find it odd to see the Ministry of Transportation in addressing the Go-Jek phenomenon. He have an analogy of prostitution to be compared with Go-Jek, where the two are illegal, but used by the society. The difference is Go-Jek is needed for positive values.

Ahok said the Law banned prostitution, but there are lots of hidden prostitution locations freely operate. The government should not ban Go-Jek although the Law does not regulate it.

"It is similar to prostitution, banned by the Law, but there are lots in Jakarta, and still opens. Ojeg is everywhere in Indonesia, illegal as well. Well, let's just make a good use of it," Ahok said at the City Hall, Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (6/24/2015).

The former East Belitung Regent said Go-Jek service had helped the mobility of the people without getting stuck in traffic. Go-Jel provides benefits to both passengers and drivers, where passengers do not have to find ojeg posts, as Go-Jek drivers do not have to stay at a particular post since the order comes through the Internet.
