medcom.id, Jakarta: Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan denied he leads an offshore company, Mayfair International Ltd, which is mentioned in leaked offshore documents dubbed Panama Papers.

"I don't know and never involve in that Mayfair company," said Luhut at his office, Jakarta, Monday (4/25/2016).

Luhut underlined that he always pays his taxes. He never has any intention to avoid paying taxes. "I think that is important principle," he added.

Report from Tempo stated that Mayfair was created on June 29, 2006. The company owned by PT Persada Inti Energi and PT Buana Inti Energi.

PT Persada Inti Energi owned by PT Pelita Buana Karya and Elizabeth Prasetyo Utomo. Elizabeth was finance director in PT Toba Bara Sejahtera, Luhut's company, in 2008-2009.

Moreover, PT Toba Bara Sejahtera's financial report mentions PT Buana Inti Energi as its business partner.

Mayfair's deed of establishment mentions the offshore company located at Suite 13, First Floor, Oliaji Trade Centre, Francis Rachel Street, Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles. Luhut listed as its only director. In the document, Luhut's address is Jalan Mega Kuningan Barat III No. 11, Jakarta.

Luhut explained the address in the document is incorrect. "My house is at No.18," he clarified.

The retired general believes someone has used his name. "The company was established without my knowledge," he continued.

Anti-corruption activist Febri Hendri urged officials whose name is mentioned in Panama Papers to resign. Febri said that the officials have been tainted.

"This could be momentum to improve ethics among our public officials. Previously, we must prove it in court first. It is often used by officials to keep their jobs," he explained.

Several foreign leaders has stepped down due to Panama Papers like Icelandic Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson and spanish Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism Jose Manuel Soria.
