medcom.id, Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama prefers to run as independent candidate in next Jakarta gubernatorial election.

Ahok appreciated his volunteers, Ahok's friends (Teman Ahok), who are currently collecting ID cards which is a requirement to run as independent candidate.

"Well, we should appreciate them. I will run as independent candidate if one million ID cars are reached," said Ahok in his office, Monday (1/11/2016).

He explained, Ahok's Friends have worked hard to collect ID cards for him. "I witness how hard work to fulfill the requirement. I think it is almost impossible to be reached. If they can collect one million ID cards, I must appreciate their effort," Ahok continued.

Ahok said he still welcomes political parties that want to support him in the election. Nevertheless, he will be selective.

Currently, Ahok's Friends have collected 514,000 ID cards. The volunteers are optimistic they can collect one million ID cards until June 2016.

According to regulation, Ahok must collect at least 750,000 ID cards to run as independent candidate. Ahok targets one million ID cards as the ID cards still needs to be verified. Jakarta gubernatorial election is scheduled in February 2017.
