Ade Komarudin Withdraws, Setya Novanto Elected as Golkar Chairman

medcom.id, Bali: Setya Novanto has been elected as the new Golkar Party Chairman after his main competitor, Ade Komaruddin, withdrew from the race. 
 
"I will support Setya Novanto," said Ade during Golkar Extraordinary National Congress in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday (5/17/2016).
 
No candidate reached simple majority in the first round of the election. Setya received 277 votes out of 554 while Ade collected 173 votes.
 
Before the second round of the election, Ade entered the stage and announced his withdrawal.

1. Ade Komarudin: 173 
 
2. Setya Novanto: 277
 
3. Airlangga Hartarto: 14
 
4. Mahyuddin: 2
 
5. Priyo Budi Santoso: 1
 
6. Azis Syamsuddin: 48
 
7. Indra Bambang Utoyo: 1
 
8. Syahrul Yasin Limpo: 27
 
Invalid votes: 11
 
Total votes: 554

Novanto was born on November 12, 1954 in Bandung, West Java. He studied in Widya Mandala Catholic University and Trisakti University.
 
Novanto started his career as politician in 1974. He began his career as lawmaker from Golkar in 1999.
 
In 2014, he was elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. However, he was forced to step down due to corruption scandal.
