Sumatran Tiger Population Dwindling

medcom.id, Medan: Great Hall of Gunung Leuser National Park (BBTNGL) stated the Sumatran tiger population continues to decline. It is estimated only around 300 Sumatran tigers remain in the island.
 
"Only 30 tigers remain in Gunung Leuser National Park. In Sumatra Island, only around 300 tigers," said BBTNGL's management division head Sapto Aji Prabowoin Langkat, North Sumatra, Wednesday (5/25/2016).
 
In addition to deforestation, the decline is also caused by poaching. People hunt Sumatran tigers for their skins and bones "From 2015 until now, BBTNGL recorded two poaching cases," he continued.

Sapto explained his agency and other related institutions has increased patrol and preventive measures.
 
BBTNGL and Langkat Police recently arrested three members of wildlife trade syndicate in the region. They were captured when selling Sumatran tiger skins and bones.
