medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesian Air Force questioned the construction of Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base.

"This is military area. 150 families live here. Many buildings in the air base. It is not that easy to move them all," said Indonesian Air Force spokesperson Air Vice Marshall Wieko sofyan to Metrotvnews.com, Thursday (4/28/2016).

Wieko explained the air force actually has space in the air base that could be used for the project. "There is still space inside the air base. I cannot reveal it. The stakeholder has not given any response," he continued.

Regarding the detention of Chinese nationals for trespassing the air base, Wieko reiterated Halim Air Base is military area which is forbidden for public.

"Let alone foreign nationals, our own citizens cannot enter the air base without permit," he underlined.

Five Chinese nationals and two Indonesians were arrested at Halim Air Base on Wednesday, April 27 for trespassing military air base without permit. They are workers for the high-speed rail project.

"Seven people entered military area without permit. Five of them are Chinese nationals," said Halim Air Base Commander Colonel Sri Mulyo Handoko yesterday.

The workers were arrested when they were collecting soil samples. "This is dangerous. They can enter military area without permit. Even foreigners," continued Handoko.

The Chinese nationals were brought to the Immigration Office while the two Indonesians were released.

According to its blueprint, Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail will use some parts of Halim Air Base. Until now, the Indonesian Armed Forces especially the Air Force has not green lighted construction activity in the air base.

"It is important location in the capital," said lawmaker from PDIP, Tubagus Hasanuddin in January.
