medcom.id, Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) is open to the possibility of running in 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election as PDIP nominee.

Ahok said he has got approval from PDIP leadership. He even claimed that PDIP will accept him as their nominee without going through selection process.

"I have been close with PDIP for a long time," said Ahok at the City Hall, Jakarta, Friday (6/3/2016).

Nevertheless, Ahok underlined that he still prefers to run as independent candidate. He is waiting whether his volunteers can gather 1 million ID cards, the main requirement to run as independent.

"I said to Teman Ahok (Friends of Ahok volunteer group), if they can gather 1 million ID cards, I will respect that, but in the other hand, I have got support from PDIP," he explained.

Separately, Jakarta Vice Governor Djarot Syaiful Hidayat admitted public support for Ahok and him is quite strong. The PDIP politician welcomed the possibility to be paired with Ahok in 2017 election.

"It is still open. We can be paired again. Many people say Ahok-Djarot is the best pair," he stated.
