medcom.id, Jakarta: President Joko Widodo conducted a meeting with prominent ulamas at the State Palace on Tuesday (11/1).
The ulamas are Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chairman Maruf Amin, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) chairman Said Aqil Siradj and Muhammadyah chairman Haedar Nashir.
"People need peaceful and calm messages from ulamas," said Jokowi during the meeting.
Jokowi was accompanied by Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifudin and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto.
A number of Islamic organizations will hold a demonstration in the capital on November 4. They will protest against Jakarta governor candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).
Previously, Jokowi and Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto called for peace and calm ahead of the demonstration. Jokowi visited the opposition leader in Bogor on Monday (10/31).
