Museum MACAN Unveils 4 Key Exhibitions in 2020

Jakarta: Privately-owned Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (MACAN) unveiled four key exhibitions in 2020 to showcase the works of internationally-revered contemporary artists, including Melati Suryodarmo, Julian Rosefeldt, Agus Suwage, and Chiharu Shiota.
 
"We are excited to display large-scale works of the artists in 2020," Director of Museum MACAN Aaron Seeto noted in a statement received here Monday, December 30, 2019
 
Seeto highlighted that the works of Julian Rosefeldt, a German artist and filmmaker, will open the museum's next year programs from February to May 2020.  Jakarta's first private modern and contemporary museum will showcase Rosefeldt's Manifesto, a 13-channel video installation paying homage to the moving tradition and literary beauty of artists, poets, architects, performers, cartoonists, and the academy awards actress Cate Blanchett. 

Apart from Rosefeldt's Manifesto, the museum will showcase "Why Let the Chicken Run?" that is a work of Indonesia's contemporary artist, Melati Suryodarmo, in February 2020. At the exhibition, Suryodarmo will explore concepts of the human body and its influences on the traditions of arts at her birthplace, Solo City, Central Java Province.
 
Meanwhile, from July to October next year, the museum will present "The Theatre of Me," an exhibition highlighting the works of Indonesia's contemporary artist Agus Suwage. At the exhibition, Museum MACAN will showcase the artist's self-portraits, paintings, statues, and installations that he has produced since 1980s until now.
 
Apart from Suwage, Museum MACAN unveils it will present "The Soul Trembles," a single exhibition of Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota, featuring his works in the course of the past 25 years. Shiota's works will be available for public viewing from November 2020 to February 2021. For Shiota's single exhibition, Museum MACAN will partner up with Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. (Antara)
