Jakarta: The renovation of Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) cultural center is expected to be complete by 2021. The progress has reached 15 percent as of this month.
"We have built a parking area, part of H.B. Jassin Library and Literary Documentation Center and Amir Hamzah Mosque," Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) operational director Muhammad Taufiqurrachman said here on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
According to him, the project will not cover culturage heritage buildings in TIM. In the meantime, the project will repair damaged buildings in the complex.
"For example, we will repair the seats, the lightning systems, the walls and the toilets. Some buildings are not fit to showcase art performances. So we will renovate the buildings," he explained.
The project has begun since July 3, 2019. It is estimated to cost around Rp1.8 trillion.
TIM is named after Ismail Marzuki, one of Indonesia's most influential composers. The complex was inaugurated by Jakarta Governor Ali Sadikin in 1968.
