Papua Film Festival to be Held This Month

Jakarta: The ongoing covid-19 pandemic does not deter Papuan Voices from holding this year’s Papuan Film Festival. The annual documentary festival showcases stories from the easternmost region of Indonesia.
 
Papua Film Festival IV will be held from August 7-19. Out of 29 participants, the judges have chosen 10 best documentaries.
 
This year’s judging panel consist of Dandhy Laksono, Elvira Rumkabu, and Max Binur.

The 10 best movies are : Dari Hutan Kitong Hidup by Kristina Soge and Denis Tafor; Hana by Emooz Kofit; Ilalang Bertumbuh Jagung Berbuah Sawit by Steven Saroi; Kamasan by Adam Rumpumbo; Kembali ke Jalan Leluhur by Harun Rumbarar; Penjaga Dusun Sagu by Esau Klagilit; Penutur Terakhir? by Salvius Tafor; Siklus Hidup by Yosep Levi; Susah Senang Sama-sama by Monaliza Upuya; dan Yai Pu Tifa by Marselius Aronggear.
 
Held annually, Papua Film Festival has been held since 2017. 
 
“We hope FFP could be the benchmark of the Papuan Cinema,” said Papua Film Festival organizer in a written statement.
 
Papuan Voices is a filmmaking community in Papua who focuses on producing short documentaries about people of Papua.  (Translator: Natasha Celia)
