Lebak: Millennials have begun to develop a proclivity for Batik crafts created locally in Lebak regency, Banten Province.
It is viewed as an effort to promote local products.
"Several millennials visit Kampung Batik Lebak (Lebak's Batik Village) here in Bojongleles, Cibadak Sub-district, every day," Batik Chanting Pradana craftswoman Umsaroh said here on Sunday, October 6, 2019.
According to Umsaroh, previously only adults, especially civil servants, preferred to purchase Batik Lebak.
However, she is currently quite pleased with the response from millennials after optimum promotion conducted by the government as well as Batik entrepreneurs and craftsmen.
Young people usually order batik to wear on formal occasions and as daily outfit.
Batik Lebak is crafted with 12 different motifs, including Seren Taun, Sawarna, Kahirupan Baduy, and Pare Sapocong, that all illustrate the livelihoods of Baduy society, a native tribe in the rural area of Lebak.
"Each motif of Batik Lebak holds philosophical significance in the lives of the Baduy people," she remarked. (Antara)
