medcom.id, Jakarta: Piracy in music industry seemed to be a never-ending issue. Various innovations and legal measures have been taken to eradicate piracy.
The latest is the stance of ASIRI (Association of Indonesian Recording Industry) and GAPERINDO (Indonesia's Joint Recording Companies), which officially partnered with PIMRI (Indonesian Replicating Media Industry Association). They have agreed to release a product, titled the 'VCD Karaoke Super Ekonomis', or super economic karaoke VCD.
Interesting. PIMRI members are comprised of five replicating factories producing pirated VCDs, CDs and DVDs. Meanwhile ASIRI, in its vision and mission explained themselves as the anti-piracy party both within or outside the courtroom.
With the super economic VCD, ASIRI hopes the piracy of musical products in the disc format will no longer occur.
“Our four main enemies are pirates, pirates, pirates and pirates. Digital piracy is totally chaotic. It is a homework. It can be said that the platforms are available, there are Apple Music, Joox, soon there will be Spotify. To find original songs are easy,” said Toto Widjojo, a member of the ASIRI board, as well as the Managing Director of Warner Music Indonesia, when met by Metrotvnews.com some time ago.
"I support super economic VCD, as it is a breakthrough. What we make with them is the VCD with original clips or other visuals. I think, it is supposed to be supported. It is the market where the labels in ASIRI have not focused in. Such as Warner, for example, it never released karaoke VCD. They (pirated music sellers) have millions of stalls," he explained.
The declaration of VCD Karaoke Super Ekonomis' release was even bluntly held in Pinangsia Plaza, Glodok, West Jakarta. It is a region known to be the largest market of pirated goods. The release was also attended by ASIRI and PIMRI.
One super economic karaoke VCD contains a compilation of 14 songs in maximum. The songs in the disc is from the labels under ASIRI and willing to join in the project. The price is also competitive if compared to the pirated products.
PIMRI sells a piece of karaoke VCD for Rp3,500 to distributors. From the distributors, one piece of the disc is sold for Rp3,750 to large resellers. Then, from the resellers to retailers, it is Rp4,000. Retailers then can sell the disc for Rp5,000 or more to customers.
Meanwhile, the labels only took Rp850 from the replicators. The number is already deducted by tax. With a very small number, Toto said the labels will still profit.
"This is volume game. The profit is small but the number of CDs sold is huge, the result will still be huge. It is a non-existing product,” explained Toto.
With the cooperation, Toto wishes the pirates and consumers accustomed of buying pirated materials will 'repent'.
"I am optimistic that with this kind of cooperation, they (pirates and consumers) will be aware that it is time for them to support original copies. If the original is available, why pirate it," concluded Toto.
