medcom.id, Jakarta: Anyone can use his fingers to count the number of Indonesian films that well received in cinemas worldwide. But does that mean that local filmmakers could not make excellence movies? The answer is no.
After two series of The Raid bombardized international cinemas and tossed the actors in fame, Indonesian filmmakers are preparing to release new movies globally.
Volt, an Indonesian superhero movie is about to be launched across the continent. The movie tells a story of Indonesian contemporary superhero, featuring a character under the wing of Skylar Comics. Marcelino Lefrandt is one of the brain who developed this figure.
"Volt sounded like an international name, but it's a common name in Indonesia. We did it in purpose so the children would embrace him nicely. I didn't want to surprise them with a superhero wearing wayang (Indonesian traditional tales) accessories. He has the look of international superhero, but his attitude is pure originated from Indonesian culture," Marcelino explained to Metrotvnews.com.
The shooting process will be started next year. Various preparations have been made, including the costume material which will be designed with the same material as Marvel and DC Comics' superhero costumes in their live-action movies.
The script will be written by Bebi Hasibuan, while Anggy Umbara will take director seat and Sarjono Sutrisno will be the producer.
Before Volt is ready to take international spotlight, Skylar Comics will release another Indonesian superhero film this year, Valentine. There will be continuity between stories in Valentine and Volt.
"These are international quality films, Indonesian movies which will hit cinemas all over the globe," Marcelino added. "We are planning to distribute them worldwide. Budget wise, they're rather expensive, more than IDR20 billion."
