Sri Yanti Nainggolan • 11 August 2016 23:51
medcom.id, Jakarta: There are five types of viral hepatitis: A, B, C, D and E. Each type is caused by distinct virus.

"They only have one similarity. All types attack the liver," said hepatologist Dr. Irsan Hasan in a public discussion in Jakarta recently.

Hepatitis A is common viral hepatitis disease in Indonesia. It usually spreads through contaminated foods.

Meanwhile, Hepatitis B is usually transmitted through blood and body fluids. It can also be transmitted from mother to child during childbirth.

Dr. Irsan explained Hepatitis C does not have special symptoms. If it is detected late, it could trigger chirrosis and cancer.

Hepatitis D is the most unique. Hepatitis D virus can only propagate along with Hepatitis B virus.

Lastly, Hepatitis E can easily grow in the areas with bad sanitation.
