medcom.id, Jakarta: The use of fan belt as the forwarder of engine cycle is still applied in most latest production vehicles. Generally the fan belt functioned to run the alternator dynamo (battery refilling), water pump, AC compressor and power steering pump.
The fan belt snapping when driving may cause the car to stuck and jammed. It is because several components operating from the fan belt died or malfunctioning.
Mislam, mechanic and owner of Fahmi Jaya Motor, East Bekasi, West Java, elaborated the cause of detached fan belt, due to the expiry period.
"Most people do not pay attention on the function and method of fan belt, which as an expiry date reaching 40,000 kilometers. But I advise that for safety and precautions, check your fan belt after reaching 20,000 kilometers, if it is broken/cracked, replace them immediately," Mislam explained.
The sign of fan belt detaching is that aside from its cracked condition, it is the sound of squeaking and pounding on the engine.
