4 Things to Know Before Donating Blood

medcom.id, Jakarta: Blood donation is a life-saving noble act. It also gives health benefits to the blood donor.
 
However, not all people can donate their blood. These are four things that you should understand before donating your blood.
 
1. Donor criteria

You should be between 17 and 50 years old with and weigh more than 50 kilograms. You must not have venereal diseases, low blood pressure or anemia. It is important to notice the official about your medication history.
 
2. Consume enough iron
 
An hour before you donate blood, you could consume foods that high in iron such as wheat, spinach and banana.  Don't drink coffee to avoid dehydration.
 
3. Tighten your fist
 
You will be asked to tighten your fist so the official can find the vein easily. If you are afraid of needle, you can divert your attention with music.
 
4. Eat after donating blood
 
It is important to eat after donating blood to recover your blood sugar level. You can donate your blood again after three months.
