Metrotvnews.om, Jakarta: The Jakarta Provincial Government is urged to maintain Betawi culture amid globalization. Betawi is native ethnic group in Jakarta.
"I am concerned, as the attention to Betawi culture is still lacking," said betawi artist, Mandra, in Jakarta, Sunday (3/6/2016).
Mandra mentioned that in the 1980s, the government implemented cultural education and program. He said the policy is no longer applied.
He explained Betawi artists in the past often performed in big events. "The oppotunity now is gone," he added.
Mandra wishes that the government provides great role in preserving the Betawi culture. According to Mandra, the native culture is the pride of the region.
