medcom.id, Jepara: Sculptors from Mulyoharjo village, Jepara, Central Java are overloaded with orders prior Chinese New Year. Buyers from local and abroad ordered Chinese-themed sculptures especially Guanyin sculptures.
One of the sculptors in the village, Sukarno, mentioned he and his colleagues even have to decline several orders. "Those are unfinished sculptures. Those has been ordered by customers," he said while showing his workshop, Monday (2/1/2016).
Sukarno mentioned the orders started to come in December. 60 centimeters Guanyin wood sculpture cost around Rp4 million.
"Whether it is Chinese New Year or not, that is the price. The rate depends on the level of complexity and the material used," he explained.
Another sculptor Yanto said normally he only receives on or two orders. However in this season, Yanto has completed four sculptures.
“I make Guanyin sculpture in various forms. There are standing and sitting forms," said Yanto.
