medcom.id, Jakarta: The millennials are those who born from the 1980s to the 2000s. They will be dominant group in 2020.
Psychology professor from University of Indonesia, Ivan Sudjana, said the millennials have different way of thinking compared with generation x who are born from 1970s to 1980s.
"At the working environment, generation X are hardworking people with expectation of salary increase. Meanwhile, millennials want some space to express their work freely. They are creative workers," explained Ivan during public discussion in Jakarta recently.
In other words, millenials choose passion more than financial gain.
Working with millennials
Ivan added that the millennial generation are critical and craving for inspiration. Generally, they would rebel against the system when they see something not right. "Millennial generation hate inconsistency," said Ivan.
Besides that, Millennials love to be praised for their work. "They love to receive praise. It increases their self esteem," he added.
They also generally prefer prestigious company to small company. Even though, they could get bigger salary in the small company.
"They are more interested in out-of-town assignment than high paying job, as they can show in social media about places they visit," he concluded.
