Twilight of Music Stores in Indonesia

Anindya Legia Putri • 03 January 2016 20:06
medcom.id, Jakarta: Slowly but sure, several outlets of Disc Tarra, one of the main music store chain in the country, are closed down. Some of them, such as in Kota Kasablanka, Mall of Indonesia (MOI) and also Pondok Indah Mall, have been shut down by the end of December.

Based on the observation of Metrotvnews.com, the official website of Disc Tarra is also no longer active.

In mid November 2014, Disc Tarra management affirmed that it will close 40 outlets in Indonesia gradually. It has become a reality as they are closing their stores one by one.

The  emergence of the digital era have made people alter their way of listening music. Now they can easily stream and download it from the Internet. Surely it has affected the physical sales, which is the main business of Disc Tarra.

The small number of the physical release also brought a huge effect towards various music retail stores in Indonesia. There were many stores that have gone bankrupt, such as Aquarius Mahakam in 2013, then the Tower Records and also HMV in various countries.
