medcom.id, Jakarta: Actively moving your body may bring positive effect to the heart's health. Coronary heart disease is the largest killing disease in 2012. Aside from heart, cancer has also been the second largest cause of death in the world.
Both diseases emerged due to the blood vessels, or what is called as a cardiovascular disease.
"Coronary heart disease and stroke are the diseases caused by blood vessels. Sitting for too long and not actively moving will cause the blood vessels to narrow," said internal disease specialist Doctor Simon Salim, when met at the "Brrrgerak30" event in Sudirman area, Jakarta, Wednesday (11/4/2015).
Every activity increase will be beneficial to the health. If compared to sitting silent in the sofa, it is better to walk often. Sporting with the medium intensity of 30 minutes, five times a week, may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
"Physical activities play a great role in cardiovascular health. The research estimated that for every additional two hours of sitting, it may increase the risk of cardiovascular up to 5 percent. On the other side, exercising for an hour may improve body fatigue lost for 6-7 hours of sitting," mentioned Simon.
As an early start, walking is a form of physical activity that is easily done, inexpensive, as well as capable to be conducted by most people.
"Try to reach the target of 10,000 steps per day. For those walking often, don't be satisfied just yet, as adding a 30 minutes exercise in the medium intensity still provides extra benefits," Simon said.
However, conducting home chores such as sweeping, mopping and washing dishes are also considered as actively moving, despite being considered not to fulfill the needs of movement.
"No need for hard exercise, the main idea is to remember moving when you are able to move," he concluded.
