medcom.id, Jakarta: Wregas Bhanuteja, young filmmaker from Indonesia, is committed to bring his works to prestigious international film festivals.
Last year, Wregas succeeded to enter selection stage of Berlinale Film Festival through Lembusura, an experimental film about Mount Kelud eruption.
"Berlinale is my first experience in an international film festival. In 2015, I was at the location and walked the red carpet. My film, Lembusura, was screened four times and they were filled with audience," said Wregas when met in Jakarta recently.
In Berlinale, Wregas met with film maestros such as Wim Wenders, Werner Herzog and Darren Arronofsky. "It was an unforgettable experience, as it changed my life and perspective," said Wregas.
Now, through his latest work, Prenjak/In The Year of Monkey, Wregas is going to participate on the Cannes Film Festival 2016. Prenjak has been selected in the category of short movie in La Semaine de la Critique program.
Prenjak/In The Year of Monkey tells a story of a woman in need of money. She then sells matches, where if those are lit, the customers may see uncovered body parts of the woman.
"I want to talk about male and female relationship through the film," said Wregas.
The film is a Javanese short movie with a background of Yogyakarta. Prenjak/In The Year of Monkey will be screened in Indonesia in early June 2016.
