medcom.id, Sumedang: Residents of Citali Village, Sumedang Regency, West Java held gembrong liwet festival last weekend. Gembrong liwet is Sundanese tradition ahead of Ramadhan.
During the event, village residents gathered to eat nasi liwet (Sundanese steamed rice) together.
Sundanese culture expert, Irwansah Putra, mentioned that gembrong liwet is intended to show gratitude to the God. Ramadhan is a special month in Islamic teachings.
"In this event, there is no difference between common people, village leaders, or even regional leaders," said Irwansyah, Sumedang, Sunday (5/29/2016).
Citali residents made the nasi liwet in groups. The best nasi liwet was crowned as Nasi Liwet King.
