medcom.id, Jakarta: Entering the fifth day of fasting, some may feel heavy enough to go through the fast, especially on the morning meal or Sahur. Doctor Edy Rizal Wahyudi, SpPD, KGer, FINASIM from the Division of  Geriatric Department of Internal Pathology Of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia provided several tips to successfully go through fasting. The tips are available for all ages.

1. During Sahur, limit the tea and coffee intake, as both drinks accelerated your metabolism and quickly produce thirst even if not dehydrated.

2. It is advisable to consume slow processing food with high fiber. Example: wheat, rice, nuts, seeds and red rice.

3. During breaking the fast, it is advised to consume Qorma as it contains sugar, fiber, carbohydrate, potassium and magnesium. Whereas by eating the fruit, the loss of body nutrition during the fast may slowly be fulfilled.

4. Consuming banana during breaking the fast is very useful to the body, as banana is a source of potassium, magnesium and carbohydrate.

5. Limit the consumption of fried food during breaking the fast, as it increases body fat. It is because during elderly age, someone tends to have diseases caused by fat, such as heart disease, coronary heart attacks and hypertension.

6. Limit faster digested food, like sugar. It will produce thirst faster during the fasting period.

7. Consume water or fruit juice in between breaking the fast and sleeping time. It has a purpose of providing liquid needs inside the body to perform the activities in the following day.

8. Avoid too many icy food, as it makes a person feels full faster. The proper and complete nutritious food will decrease if they cannot be consumed by the body.

9. Exercise regularly (in a medium moderation and advised in the afternoons) to keep the body fit during fasting period. (Eps)
