5 Negative Effects of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

medcom.id, Jakarta: Many people think snoring is a normal thing. However, it may be a sign of obstuctive sleep apnea (OSA).
 
OSA is caused by complete or partial obstructions of the upper airway. It is the most common type of sleep apnea.
 
Dr. Andreas Prasadja, a pulmonologist at Mitra Keluarga Kemayoran Hospital, said OSA can be detected by overnight sleep study. He mentioned OSA has several negative effects:

1. Poor oxygen supply.
 
2. Increased sympathetic nervous activity.
 
3. High blood pressure.
 
4. Pre-diabetes.
 
5. An increase of inflammatory cells.
