medcom.id, Jakarta: The number of diabetic patients in the world is predicted to increase from 415 million in 2015 to 642 million in 2040.
"There will be an increase in 2040," said Wismandari an internist at the Pondok Indah Hospital in a public discussion recently.
Indonesia currently has around 10 million diabetic patients. It is ranked seventh behind China, India, the United States, Brazil, Russia and Mexico.
Wismandari said most developed countries allocate funds for diabetic patients. the United States reportedly spends Rp320 billion annually to tackle the disease.
Other developed countries that have similar funds are Germany, Japan, Brazil, France, Canada, Russia, Britain and Italy.
