medcom.id, Jakarta: Indonesia has various traditional fabrics. The potential, if benefited well, may be expanded to assist the small-medium economy, as well as strengthening the nation's identity.

Based on the idea, 15 women had been encouraged to form "Komunitas Cinta Berkain" (KCB), or Fabric Lovers Community, a group focused on Indonesian traditional art and culture, especially on fabrics.

Since established two years ago, KCB has gathered 1,200 members spreading in cities such as Bogor, Malang, Surabaya, Bali, to San Francisco, USA.

"In the future, we hope for the government's assistance. Maybe someday we can assist the government and partnered in culture-based programs," said the chairwoman of KCB, Sitahani H. Agustanzil, when met at the Golf Gallery, Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, Wednesday (3/23/2016).

"We also intended to give a special attention to fabric artists across the archipelago. If local fabrics are used on daily basis, surely it will provide significant impact in the livelihood of these artists," added Sita.

Sita thinks that India has become one of the exemplary nations.

"Indian women are strapped with seven meters of Sari fabric, and they're not ashamed. They went into dusty markets. That is why India is more famous than Indonesia, as India successfully created character," said Sita.
