Fasting May Improve Heart Condition

medcom.id, Jakarta: Looking at the health aspect, fasting has proven to provide many benefits. One of them is reducing the risk of heart diseases.
 
The idea was mentioned by Head of Sub-Directorate of Heart and Vascular Disease Control of the Ministry of Health, Lili Banonah Rivai.
 
"When fasting, meal schedules become more organized. When we seize from eating for 14 hours, the digestive organs will rest and body metabolism become normal," she said during health education held by SOHO #BetterU in Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, June 30th evening.

Lili explained that regular meal schedule may increase good fat (HDL) within the body, as lowering bad fats (LDL). Aside from that, lymphocytes increase would occur, in order to improve immunity.
 
"When the digestive organs rest, the gastric will produce toxins attached to the intestine's wall. If there is no toxins, the cells will develop well and comes in many," she added.
 
However, there is a condition to make someone to benefit from fasting as described above. "During sahur and breaking the fast, the menu should be healthy. If we use revenge principal, or eating everything at hand, we will not gain health benefit from fasting," she said.
 
From the psychological side, fasting is capable of making one calmer, as he/she learns to restrain anger.
 
"Fasting is not only restraining for hunger and thirst, but also to become more patient. Along with the duration of fasting, we will be trained in becoming more patient in handling every problems in a better manner," she explained. (Eps)
