"Eye contact is important communication skill. Six month old baby should already be able to make eye contact," said Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) Chairman Aman B Pulungan in Jakarta recently.
Eye contact is a form of intimacy between parents and their babies. Aman mentioned that parents should pay attention on what their children see when they are 6-12 months old.
"When children do something and then see their parents, it means they want to know your response," he said.
He added that the response will determine how children will act in the future. If they get positive response, they will feel confident.
On contrary, if they get negative response, they will stop making eye contact because of fear.
