Importance of Early Cancer Detection

medcom.id, Jakarta: High immortality rate caused by cancer has urged Parkway Hospitals' concern to educate the public on this particular disease. Therefore, the institution holds several health discussions or Health Talk with several communities in Indonesia during the month of June, with the two well known cancer specialists, the Medical Director and Senior Medical Oncologist of Parkway Cancer Center dr. Ang Peng Tiam, as well as Colorectal Surgeon & General Surgeon Mount Elizabeth dr. Teoh Tiong Ann.
 
The event is being held to engage public in knowing more about cancer, to provide early detection and acquire proper and swift treatment.
 
When met in between the Health Talk activities, the oncology expert and former President of Singapore Society of Oncology dr. Ang Peng Tiam emphasized the importance of providing hope to every cancer patient's chance to be cured.

"I love to convey stories to my patients, stories with hope to inspire them, for them not to be hopeless and bravely face the disease," revealed dr. Ang.

However, as many has known that early stages of cancer has no vivid symptoms as most individuals are not aware. The importance of early detection to cancer greatly affects the treatment process and the patient's efforts to be cured.
 
"Everyone has the chance to be contracted with cancer by heredity, virus and even unhealthy life style," explained dr. Ang when opening the health discussion at Grand Hyatt Hotel.
 
At a higher stage, cancer may attack the whole body and lowers the quality of life of the bearer. Often patients received late treatments due to lack of knowledge and supporting health technology.
 
Furthermore, dr. Ang Peng Tiam advised the public to conduct regular health check up to detect cancer early. Several ways available include PET/CT Scan, Mammogram or Pap Smear test.
