Semarang: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and several ministers visited Semarang's Old Town. He boarded a bike from Semarang Square to the city's old town area.

Jokowi said that the government spent as many as RP170 billion to revitalize Semarang's Old Town. He believes that the area can become Central Java's creative hub.

"The project was started two years ago. It has been completed now," Jokowi said here on Monday, December 30, 2019.

Jokowi admitted that the project ran smooth. The 20-hectare-area is expected to become Semarang's new tourism icon.

"So it can attract more tourists," Jokowi remarked.

Jokowi asked all stakeholders to help preserve Semarang's Old Town. He stressed that Semarang's Old Town should also be enjoyed by the future generation.

"This is our heritage site," Jokowi concluded.

Before visiting the old town area, Jokowi inaugurated the newly-renovated Johar Market. Burned Down in 2015, he ensured that vendors can immediately return to the traditional market.
