Sumedang to Host West Java Paragliding World Championship

Jakarta: The Sumedang Regency administration seeks to intensify the promotion of tourist destinations in its region, one of which is through the sport tourism event of West Java Paragliding World Championship 2019 which will be held in October 22-28, 2019 in the regency.
 
The competition is divided into two categories: Paragliding Accuracy World Cup (Pre-PGAWC 2019) and Paragliding Cross Country World Cup (Pre-PWC 2019). The event will be ended by Paragliding Festival (including Fun Fly and Culture Festival).
 
The Accuracy category (with a world license from the Paragliding Accuracy World Championship Organization / PGAWC), will take place in Toga Village, Sumedang, on October 22-25, 2019. The Cross Country category (with world license from the Cross Country / Pre-PWC 2019 Paragliding World Championship Organization), will take place in Batu Dua, Sumedang, on October 22-26, 2019.

Meanwhile, Fun Fly and Cultural Festival, with world license from the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI), will take place at Kampung Toga, Sumedang on 27-28 October 2019. This Fun Fly will break the MURI Record for a Joint Flying World Record which will be participated by around 160 pilots. 
 
"Approximately 209 participants, which came from 20 countries, have registered to all three categories," the Tourism Ministry said in a press statement released on Sunday, September 29, 2019.
 
Being the regency that holds this international paragliding event, Sumedang is an area that has a strategic place for paragliding, especially above the Jatigede Dam. Moreover, Sumedang has distinctive cultural and tourism potential that cannot be found anywhere else.
 
Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir hopes that the regency can attract more international tourists and improve the regional economy through this event.
 
"Hopefully Jatigede can trigger the improvement of tourism through capitalization and regional development," the Tourism Ministry's website quoted Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir as saying.
